The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria was created to dramatically increase resources to fight three of the world's most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need.
As a partnership between governments, civil society, the private sector and affected communities, the Global Fund represents an innovative approach to international health financing.
Global Fund grants are helping to..
- detect 3.5 million additional casesof infectious tuberculosis
- cure 2 million people through the internationally approved DOTS treatment strategy
- quadruple treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, with more than 12,000 new treatments
Each year, nearly 2 million people die of TB, despite the availability of inexpensive treatments that are effective in up to 95% of cases.
